After a busy trading day on Sunday we finally closed up shop at around 6pm on Sunday evening. Our fantastic team of Jackie, Rob, Dani, Tamar, Emily, Louise and Adam then went into overdrive to pack up the pub ready for the planned changes. If it wasn't nailed down then it was wrapped, boxed, or stored.
Our building team arrived promptly on site at 8am the following morning and by the middle of the afternoon today the Bear transformation was starting to take shape.
So far, everything is going to plan (trying not to put a jinx on anything!). The rest of the week will see the internal building changes completed; as well as a significant amount of work done in the kitchen to bring it up to current standards of a commercial kitchen. Typically, a majority of the work in this project will be on the 'hidden' stuff - electrics, CCTV, plumbing, kitchen re-configuration etc. But that's fine with us as we are here for long haul so every investment made now, will repay us in the years to come.
This also means that we are now considered to be a building site and not a pub! Therefore the relevant Health and Safety requirements are in place around the site. We know that you will all be keen to see the changes and we will keep you updated as the work progresses. However, we and the Building Manager cannot stress enough the importance of keeping the site safe so we ask that you do not enter the fenced off areas at any stage.
We also have a social media ban in place - so we will not be putting up pictures on our website/facebook/twitter feeds. We want the end result to be a nice surprise for everyone!
That's it for now. We will send another update at the end of the week!
Regards for now
Hannah and Garry
